Our client, a leading national law firm with a market-leading reputation in the education sector, is seeking a talented and motivated Commercial Lawyer to join their dynamic and growing commercial education team in Birmingham.
The firm acts as a trusted adviser to universities, schools, educational charities, and corporates operating in the sector, nationally and internationally, and is committed to providing high-quality, practical legal advice that supports clients’ missions and values. Their client base includes over 100 universities and many world-leading sector-focused corporates.
The Role This opportunity is ideal for an ambitious commercial lawyer with experience or a strong interest in the education sector. You will work on high-profile, interesting projects and collaborate closely with colleagues in the national education sector team as well as the firm’s commercial and corporate teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising on and negotiating commercial agreements for overseas branch campuses in locations such as India, China, and Southeast Asia.
- Advising on collaboration, partnership, and joint venture agreements.
- Supporting clients with nomination, validation, and franchise agreements.
- Advising on a wide range of commercial agreements, including outsourcing arrangements, for education sector clients.
The Candidate - Strong background in commercial law, with 6+ years PQE.
- Previous experience acting for clients in the education sector, or a clear enthusiasm and willingness to develop in this area.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent client service skills, understanding clients’ legal, commercial, and operational requirements.
- High technical competence, strong drafting and written communication skills, and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment, prioritising work effectively.
