About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious individual to join an established specialist Costs team as a Trainee Costs Draftsman.
This is an ideal entry-level opportunity for a law graduate or someone looking to build a long-term career within the specialist field of Legal Costs. You will receive hands-on training while gaining exposure to live cases, litigation procedures, court processes and a variety of legal matters.
The role offers the opportunity to develop valuable technical and commercial skills within a specialist area of the legal profession, with clear scope for progression as your experience develops.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and progress Part 8 proceedings
- Assist with the preparation of detailed Bills of Costs
- Support costs negotiations and settlement discussions
- Manage a portfolio of live matters from initial review through to conclusion
- Review case documentation and identify recoverable costs
- Support experienced members of the Costs team with case management
- Communicate with relevant stakeholders regarding case requirements
- Develop a strong understanding of costs legislation, procedures and court rules
- Maintain accurate records and ensure matters progress within required timescales
We are looking for an analytical, organised and motivated individual who is keen to develop specialist expertise within Legal Costs.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Law degree or equivalent legal qualification
- Sound understanding of general legal principles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good numerical ability and confidence working with calculations
- Strong IT skills and confidence using digital systems
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
