A growing and well-regarded Criminal Defence team is seeking a Newly Qualified Solicitor to join its expanding department in what is an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career within criminal law.
This role offers the chance to gain hands-on advocacy experience, manage a varied caseload and work alongside experienced criminal defence lawyers within a genuinely supportive and collaborative environment.
The successful candidate will handle a mix of Legal Aid and privately funded matters, with exposure to both Magistrates' Court and Crown Court work, alongside police station representation.
The position would suit a newly qualified solicitor with a strong interest in criminal law who is keen to develop advocacy skills, build confidence in client representation and work towards Duty Solicitor status. Training, supervision and ongoing support will be provided throughout.
The Role
- Managing a varied caseload of criminal matters
- Attending court hearings and representing clients at police stations
- Conducting Magistrates' Court advocacy with full support and training
- Assisting with Crown Court matters
- Liaising with clients, courts, counsel and third parties
- Preparing legal documentation and providing advice
- Supporting senior lawyers on complex matters
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards
The Ideal Candidate
- Newly Qualified Solicitor with criminal law experience
- Strong understanding of criminal procedure and court processes
- Excellent communication and client care skills
- Organised, proactive and able to work under pressure
- Team-focused with a genuine interest in criminal defence work
- Police Station Accreditation advantageous but not essential
- Willingness to work towards Duty Solicitor status
