Costs Lawyer

Salford – £50,000

A leading national law firm is looking to recruit Costs Draftspersons, Costs Lawyers, and Solicitors at all levels to join its expanding Manchester-based Costs team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large, well-established department handling a broad range of paying and receiving party costs matters across high-quality litigation work.
The team handles a varied caseload arising predominantly from personal injury litigation, whilst also supporting wider disputes work including commercial, property, professional indemnity, marine, and aviation matters. Due to continued growth and strong work volumes, there is excellent scope to gain exposure to a wide variety of costs work, with opportunities to specialise depending on experience and business needs.
The Role Responsibilities will include:
  • Assessing and negotiating settlements across fast track, intermediate track, and multi-track costs matters
  • Handling related costs proceedings
  • Drafting costs budgets for both own party and opposing third parties
  • Pursuing costs recoveries and assisting with bill drafting
  • Drafting Points of Dispute (PODs)
  • Managing your own caseload effectively and working to deadlines
  • Supporting wider team objectives within a collaborative environment
The Ideal Candidate The firm is keen to speak with candidates who have:
  • At least 2 years’ experience within a costs environment
  • Experience handling paying party matters and running their own costs files
  • Experience drafting Points of Dispute (PODs)
  • Experience with costs budgeting
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management ability
  • A positive and professional approach
  • Good IT skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
Advocacy and bill drafting experience would be advantageous but are not essential.
