A leading national law firm is seeking an experienced Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer to join its established and growing costs team. Recognised by Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners across multiple practice areas, the firm offers high-quality litigation work, strong career progression, and a modern hybrid-working environment.
The successful candidate will join a specialist nationwide team supporting the billing and recovery process across a broad range of litigation matters, with a strong emphasis on Legal Aid and inter partes costs work. This opportunity would suit someone who can hit the ground running and bring strong technical drafting and negotiation experience.
The Role Responsibilities will include:
- Drafting and preparing inter partes bills of costs, costs budgets, and Points of Dispute/Reply
- Drafting 3 and 6 column bills and electronic bills
- Preparing costs for summary assessment
- Conducting negotiations and managing costs matters from start to finish
- Drafting costs budgets and relevant precedents
- Managing service of bills and Notice of Commencement documentation
- Attending Detailed Assessment Hearings where required
- Providing technical guidance and support to fee earners
- Assisting with training and supervision of junior team members
- Managing files effectively and working to strict deadlines
- Supporting ongoing costs management and internal training processes
The Ideal Candidate The firm is keen to speak with candidates who have:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience within Costs Law
- Strong experience drafting Legal Aid and inter partes bills
- A clear understanding of CPR and costs legislation
- Experience managing their own caseload independently
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills
- Experience working within a litigation environment
- Knowledge of LAA Costs Assessment Guidance
- Experience using costs drafting software such as CostsMaster
- Excellent communication, organisation, and client care skills
- A proactive and professional approach to work
- Advocacy and supervisory experience (advantageous but not essential)
