Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer

A highly regarded national law firm is looking to recruit an experienced Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer to join its established and growing costs team. Recognised by Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners across multiple practice areas, the firm offers excellent quality work, strong infrastructure, and genuine long-term progression opportunities.
This role sits within a specialist costs team supporting complex litigation matters nationwide, with a strong focus on Legal Aid and inter partes costs work. The successful candidate will be expected to hit the ground running and bring strong drafting and negotiation experience.
The Role Responsibilities will include:
- Drafting inter partes bills of costs, costs budgets, and Points of Reply/Dispute
- Preparing bills involving Legal Aid elements
- Drafting Claim1, 1A, VHCC, and HCCP matters
- Preparing schedules, breakdowns, and estimates of costs
- Negotiating bills and attending CCMCs where required
- Assisting with detailed assessment proceedings
- Providing technical costs guidance to fee earners
- Supporting junior members of the team
- Managing files effectively and working to deadlines
The Ideal Candidate The firm is keen to speak with candidates who have:
- Strong experience within costs drafting, ideally including Legal Aid matters
- Experience drafting 3 and 6 column bills
- Knowledge of costs budgets, schedules, and Points of Reply
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- The ability to work independently and within a wider team
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience with Costs Master (desirable but not essential)
- Advocacy experience (advantageous but not essential)
