Salary: Competitive, Dependent on Experience An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Debt Recovery Solicitor to join a highly regarded law firm at their Bury office. This is a fantastic role for an enthusiastic, client-focused lawyer seeking to manage a varied caseload while contributing to the growth of a dynamic and supportive team.
The Role: As a Debt Recovery Solicitor, you will handle a broad range of debt recovery matters from inception to conclusion, representing clients that include SMEs, owner-managed businesses, professional service providers, sole traders, and large corporates. You will play an integral role in delivering high-quality legal services while supporting business development and mentoring junior colleagues.
Key Responsibilities Include: - Managing your own caseload of debt recovery matters, from routine claims through to complex cases.
- Meeting, interviewing, and advising clients on all aspects of the debt recovery process, including issuing court proceedings, requesting judgment, and pursuing winding-up petitions.
- Conducting legal research, reviewing documents, and analysing case law to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedure.
- Drafting legal documents and correspondence tailored to individual client needs in line with current law and regulatory standards.
- Representing and negotiating robustly on behalf of clients when required.
- Managing and coordinating all aspects of cases to ensure deadlines are met, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with clients, referrers, and stakeholders, enhancing the reputation and profile of the firm.
- Actively contributing to business development by maximising professional contacts and attending external marketing functions where appropriate.
- Monitoring and meeting time-recording and billing targets consistently.
- Supervising, training, and mentoring Solicitors, Legal Executives, and Paralegals to support their development and maintain high-quality standards across the team.
- Ensuring compliance with SRA principles, Lexcel, CQS, and internal policies as set out in the firm’s Office Manual.
- Maintaining strict client confidentiality and safeguarding sensitive information.
- Using available technology and case management systems to deliver a cost-effective and efficient service.
- Taking responsibility for personal development, including keeping up to date with relevant changes in debt recovery law and practice.
- Supporting the wider department and firm by assisting with additional duties that promote growth and effective operations.
What We’re Looking For: - Qualified Solicitor with proven experience in debt recovery law.
- Strong understanding of debt recovery processes, including litigation and enforcement.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a client-focused approach.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy and varied caseload.
- A proactive, commercial outlook with an interest in contributing to business development.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues is highly desirable.
- Competence with legal case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
