Court of Protection Solicitor - Manchester An established national law firm is seeking an experienced Court of Protection Solicitor to join its Court of Protection team in Manchester.
This is a highly sought-after opportunity to work closely with the Deputy and Head of the team, helping to shape and grow a specialist practice that makes a real difference in the lives of vulnerable clients.
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, assisting clients who retain capacity with later-life planning, as well as those who have lost capacity due to injury or degenerative conditions. Work will include drafting Deputyship applications, Lasting Powers of Attorney, managing property and financial affairs, and preparing applications for the Court of Protection. The role offers autonomy on routine cases alongside the opportunity to assist partners with complex matters, some exceeding £1 million in value.
Key Responsibilities: - Managing new client enquiries
- Drafting Deputyship applications and Court documents
- Managing caseloads for clients lacking capacity
- Liaising with family members, care homes, case managers, and financial advisors
- Drafting Lasting Powers of Attorney
- Diary and file management, including preparation for costing
- Preparing deputyship accounts in line with SRA rules
- Maintaining awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Capacity Code of Practice, Court of Protection Rules, and Deputy Standards
- Providing clear, empathetic communication to clients and third parties
Essential Skills and Experience: - Experience working within a Court of Protection team
- Strong office experience, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build rapport with vulnerable clients and third parties
- IT proficiency (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Proven ability to meet deadlines
Desirable Skills: - Experience drafting and advising on Wills and Probate
- Knowledge of setting up trusts and trust registration
