An established regional multi-service law firm is inviting applications for the position of Private Client Solicitor/Associate to join its well-regarded Private Client team based in Berkhamsted. The firm employs approximately 120 staff across two offices and is recognised for its friendly, inclusive culture, strong commitment to professional development and its focus on promoting a healthy work–life balance.
This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:30, reporting directly to a Partner within the Private Client department. The successful candidate will take responsibility for a diverse and engaging caseload, including the drafting of Wills and living wills, handling probate applications, preparing and registering LPAs, creating and managing trusts, dealing with Court of Protection matters and administering estates. The role will also involve carrying out relevant searches, developing proposals to maximise clients’ inheritance tax efficiencies under HMRC rules and maintaining clear and accurate records of all meetings and communications.
In addition to day-to-day casework, the role requires active involvement in business development. The candidate will be expected to build and maintain a personal client portfolio through networking, marketing and effective use of social media. Strong client care skills are essential, as the position requires managing expectations, dealing with new enquiries promptly and ensuring that all work complies with internal risk management processes and relevant quality standards, including Lexcel. The successful candidate will also play a part in the development of the wider team, supporting colleagues where needed, participating in CPD and engaging in wider firm initiatives such as charity events, networking opportunities, legal clinics, webinars and podcasts.
Applicants should have a minimum of 4+ years’ PQE in Private Client work, with 6–7 years’ PQE preferred. They should demonstrate high professional standards, excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to support vulnerable clients with tact and sensitivity. Strong IT skills are required, including familiarity with case management systems and Microsoft Office applications. The role suits someone who is self-motivated, adaptable, reliable and able to manage time effectively. The ability to work collaboratively within a team while also functioning confidently on an independent basis is essential, as is a courteous and professional manner in all client interactions. A valid driving licence is required.
