About the Role: We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive
Compliance Assistant to support our compliance function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organizational skills and an interest in legal and regulatory compliance within a law firm environment. The successful candidate will assist in upholding the firm’s professional and regulatory obligations, particularly in line with
SRA Standards and Regulations.
This role is based in
London, with a
hybrid working model (3 days in the office, 2 days from home).
Key Responsibilities: - Support the implementation and maintenance of internal compliance procedures in line with SRA Codes of Conduct.
- Assist with client onboarding and ongoing monitoring, including KYC (Know Your Client) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) checks.
- Help ensure compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules, including accurate file opening and maintenance of financial records.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate compliance documentation and registers (e.g., breach logs, training logs, and risk registers).
- Monitor staff adherence to internal policies and SRA requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of annual SRA declarations and responses to regulatory audits.
- Track changes in the regulatory landscape and help implement necessary internal updates.
- Support internal compliance audits and liaise with the Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP) and Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA) where appropriate.
- Coordinate compliance-related training and maintain training records.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive compliance issues.
Requirements: - Previous experience within a Compliance Team in a Law firm of 2 years is essential
- Experience working in a law firm or legal/regulatory compliance role is advantageous.
- Understanding of SRA Standards and Regulations, including the Codes of Conduct, Principles, and SRA Accounts Rules.
- Familiarity with AML legislation and GDPR.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and compliance management systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
